Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Honed mobile application, website, and related services (“Honed” or the “Service”). By using Honed, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Honed provides interview-preparation and job-search organization tools. Features can include question libraries and tailored questions, STAR/guided answer building, the on-device “Hone this answer” drill, mock and panel-style interview practice, audio/video recording, transcription, AI-assisted coaching, career-momentum tools, job tracking, readiness/progress views, PDF exports and Interview Day Briefs, and cross-device iCloud synchronization.

Features can change over time and can depend on a compatible Apple device/account, internet access, iCloud, AI provider availability, system permissions, and an active subscription.

2. Subscriptions, introductory offers, regional prices, and billing

Honed is subscription-gated. Monthly and annual products are purchased through Apple. Product availability, price, currency, taxes, renewal amount, and introductory-offer eligibility can vary by App Store storefront and are controlled through App Store Connect/StoreKit rather than fixed in Honed’s release code.

• If Apple determines you are eligible for a free introductory offer, the in-app purchase flow will show the applicable terms. The current intended introductory offer is 14 days where configured and eligible.
• After an introductory period, the subscription automatically converts to the selected paid billing period unless cancelled before the trial ends.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled in accordance with Apple’s subscription rules.
• Apple’s confirmation sheet is authoritative before purchase. If Honed cannot safely verify regional pricing metadata, it can withhold the amount and direct you to review Apple’s price before confirming.
• You can manage/cancel through your Apple account subscription settings and restore eligible purchases through Honed.
• Refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies.

Your purchase is also subject to applicable Apple Media Services and licensed-application terms.

3. Your content

You retain ownership of your original content, including answers, notes, recordings, transcripts, job information, outcome logs, optional employer feedback, and resume material (“User Content”). You grant the Service a limited right to store, synchronize, transmit, transform, and process User Content only as reasonably necessary to deliver the features you choose, secure the Service, and troubleshoot operation.

You are responsible for having the right to provide your User Content. Do not submit confidential employer material, trade secrets, restricted customer data, unlawfully obtained recordings, or third-party personal information you do not have permission to use. Our User Content & Acceptable Use Policy forms part of these Terms.

4. AI-generated content and coaching

Honed uses AI for some question, answer, job, insight, and coaching features. AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, generic, or unsuitable for your situation. It is a preparation aid, not professional, legal, financial, psychological, employment, or hiring advice.

Evidence-based coaching is designed to separate unassessable recordings from assessable answers and to support feedback with transcript/recording evidence, but automated transcription and analysis can still make mistakes. Scores do not represent an employer’s judgment, and Honed does not guarantee that a particular question will be asked or that use of the Service will lead to an interview, promotion, or job offer.

The “Hone this answer” drill is designed to restructure wording from facts you already supplied or confirmed; you remain responsible for reviewing every answer and ensuring it accurately represents your experience. AI-generated answer drafts also require factual review.

5. Recordings, transcription, and consent

Honed can record your own mock-interview practice. If another person is visible or audible, you are responsible for obtaining any consent required by applicable law before recording, uploading, analyzing, synchronizing, or sharing that person’s voice, image, or other information.

Speech recognition and AI coaching can depend on Apple or third-party processing. Technical failure, silence, insufficient content, or provider limitations can result in no score or incomplete feedback.

6. iCloud synchronization

Cross-device synchronization depends on Apple iCloud services, connectivity, storage, device state, and compatible account configuration. Synchronization can be delayed. Recording files can consume iCloud and temporary device storage. We do not guarantee uninterrupted transfer or permanent availability of synchronized files.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

• use Honed for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, harassing, discriminatory, or harmful activity;
• upload content you do not have permission to use;
• attempt to bypass subscription, authentication, usage, or security controls;
• probe, reverse engineer, scrape, overload, or interfere with the app, proxy, providers, or infrastructure except where restriction is prohibited by law;
• use automated systems to generate excessive AI traffic or resell access to Honed;
• use the Service to impersonate another person deceptively or unlawfully;
• present AI-generated content as verified fact where doing so could materially harm another person.

We may restrict server-based features where reasonably necessary to protect users, providers, the Service, or infrastructure.

8. Intellectual property

Honed’s software, branding, interface, illustrations, copy, and proprietary materials are owned by or licensed to the publisher of Honed. These Terms give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service as permitted by your subscription and platform rules; they do not transfer ownership of Honed intellectual property.

9. Third-party services

Honed relies on services provided by Apple, hosting providers, and AI providers. Those services can be governed by their own terms and policies and can experience outages or changes beyond Honed’s reasonable control.

10. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Honed is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, perfect synchronization or transcription, accuracy of AI output, or any particular career result.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the publisher of Honed will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from use of the Service, including lost opportunities, lost data, or reliance on AI-generated content. Where liability cannot be excluded, aggregate liability will not exceed the amount you paid for Honed during the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Nothing in these Terms excludes mandatory consumer rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.

12. Account deletion and termination

You may stop using Honed at any time. In-app account deletion is intended to clear supported app-managed local/iCloud data, subject to device, Apple, provider, and backup behavior described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account or app does not cancel an App Store subscription; subscription management is separate through Apple.

We may suspend server-based features for material violations, security threats, or abuse.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. The Effective Date will be updated and material changes may also be communicated in the app.

14. Governing terms and consumer rights

These Terms are governed by the law applicable to the publisher of Honed, subject to mandatory consumer protections and jurisdictional rights that cannot be waived in your country of residence. If a provision is unenforceable, the remainder remains effective.
